On October 14, WPIC Marketing + Technologies had the honour of being the headline sponsor for the 2024 China Consumer Conference in London, hosted by the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC). The event brought together an impressive collection of British brands, business leaders, government officials, and China market experts to discuss the growing opportunities in China’s consumer landscape.
Zarina Kanji, WPIC’s Managing Director for the UK and Europe, delivered the event’s keynote address, where she delved into updated market data on China’s most promising product categories.
Drawing on WPIC’s proprietary Discripto™ data solution, Zarina highlighted the tremendous growth in select product sub-categories, including skincare, fitness supplements, pet care products, homewares, and more. In her keynote and a later panel session, Zarina analyzed how various consumer tribes in China — ranging from sports hobbyists to homemakers — are driving growth for brands due to evolving lifestyle preferences.
In the afternoon, Zarina, as well as Peter McMath, WPIC’s Chief Revenue Officer, and Demi Shi from ByteDance participated in an insightful panel discussion on how brands can leverage social commerce — particularly on Douyin — to drive growth in the Chinese market. The panel emphasized how Douyin’s short video format, combined with sophisticated algorithms, provides brands with highly efficient tools for reaching targeted consumer segments and converting audience attention into sales — quickly.
WPIC’s recent expansion into the UK is connecting British brands with surging demand for their products — across Asian markets.
China’s consumer landscape in particular offers huge potential for British brands. There is a strong alignment between British product offerings and contemporary Chinese lifestyle preferences. British brands also enjoy a reputation for quality and prestige.
