Lincoln is the luxury vehicle division of Ford Motor Company.

The company worked with WPIC to define the requirements for a mobile app designed specifically for Lincoln owners in China.

Turning an App Concept Into a Build Plan

Lincoln had a clear ambition for the app, but the scope was complex.

Planned functionality included vehicle search, customer support, dealer locations, roadside assistance, vehicle servicing, account management, owner resources, and remote vehicle functions.

Before development could begin, Lincoln needed to translate those high-level requirements into a detailed user experience and technical specification that development teams could work from.

Defining the Product Requirements

WPIC led the definition phase, refining the app’s business requirements, user experience, and functional scope.

A detailed Functional Build List mapped the features required across the app and estimated the development or configuration effort associated with each element.

This gave Lincoln a clearer view of the technical scope before committing resources to development.

Coordinating a Complex Stakeholder Group

The project involved multiple teams and stakeholders, making governance an important part of the definition process.

WPIC developed a project charter alongside risk and issue tracking, change-management procedures, and a communication plan.

These processes created a structured framework for managing decisions, requirements and changes as the project moved towards development.

The Results

WPIC delivered the functional requirements and planning framework Lincoln needed to move the China app from concept towards development.
