How WPIC helped Ritchie Bros. launch its China digital presence, support live mobile bidding, and drive attendance for its first auction in the market.
Ritchie Bros. is the world’s largest and most trusted marketplace for used equipment, trucks and industrial assets.
As the company prepared to hold its first auction in China, it partnered with WPIC to build the digital infrastructure and marketing strategy needed to reach buyers and support online participation.
Ritchie Bros. is a Canadian company specialising in auctions and marketplaces for heavy equipment, trucks, and other commercial assets.
As the company prepared to hold its first auction in China, it partnered with WPIC to build the digital infrastructure and marketing strategy needed to reach buyers and support online participation.
WPIC developed Ritchie Bros.’ China website alongside a mobile-responsive experience designed to support live auction bidding.
The digital experience gave prospective buyers access to auction information and provided a route for participating beyond the physical auction venue.
WPIC also developed the acquisition strategy around the launch, using search optimisation, paid search, and digital media to drive traffic to the websites and generate awareness of upcoming auction events.
Heavy equipment buyers did not represent a single audience, so WPIC divided the market into 5 key verticals and developed a different approach for each.
Campaign performance and conversions were measured by segment, allowing the strategy to reflect differences in how prospective buyers discovered and engaged with Ritchie Bros.
Those insights were then used to inform a longer-term digital campaign and investment plan for the China market.
Ritchie Bros.’ first China auction attracted strong attendance, supporting the company’s decision to hold subsequent auctions in the market.
WPIC’s work also established the digital foundation around the launch, including a China-focused website, mobile bidding capabilities, and an acquisition strategy designed around distinct buyer segments.
The project gave Ritchie Bros. a way to connect its physical auction model with digital discovery and participation as it established its presence in China.
