How WPIC helped Trek Bikes connect its China e-commerce operations with its global ERP infrastructure and localise more than 600 SKUs for launch.
Trek Bikes is a U.S. bicycle manufacturer known for premium bicycles, cycling equipment, and accessories.
At the time of the project, Trek primarily served customers in China through physical stores and third-party distributors. The company partnered with WPIC to establish a direct e-commerce presence on Tmall while connecting the new operation with its existing global systems.
Launching on Tmall involved more than building a storefront.
Trek needed its China e-commerce operation to integrate with its global Hybris ERP system while also supporting its existing online-to-offline model, including online ordering and in-store collection.
China’s hosting and connectivity environment added another layer of complexity. The architecture needed to support reliable data exchange between local systems and Trek’s global infrastructure without disrupting inventory, order, or transaction data.
WPIC developed the technical architecture connecting Trek’s Tmall operation with its global Hybris ERP environment.
To support reliable connectivity in China, WPIC established a locally hosted database that could synchronise with Trek’s global systems.
The integration required careful configuration of connectivity, DNS and firewall settings, as well as transaction timing and database synchronisation to ensure information could move accurately between the local and global environments.
WPIC also established the infrastructure required to support Trek’s online-to-offline model, allowing customers to order online and collect purchases through participating physical stores.
Alongside the systems integration, WPIC localised more than 600 SKUs for Trek’s China e-commerce operation.
This work was completed in time for the planned launch, giving Trek a locally adapted product catalogue supported by the technical infrastructure needed to connect Tmall with its wider global operation.
WPIC delivered the architecture required to integrate Tmall transactions with Trek’s global Hybris ERP system while supporting its existing online-to-offline retail model.
More than 600 SKUs were localised by the planned launch date, allowing Trek to establish its China e-commerce presence without separating the new operation from its global technology stack.
